In profound sorrow we the Management & Staff of Turnbull's Funeral Home & Crematory Services announce the passing of Mr. Bernard Alphonso McBean, 82, of Ellenwood Georgia (Formally of St. Thomas) who passed away Sunday, January 14, 2024.

The legend of Bernard Alphonso McBean began on March 10, 1941. He was born to O'Neal McBean, and Inger Emmanuel in St. Thomas, USVI. He was preceded in death by his parents, son: Derrick McBean, sisters: Paula Raymond, Eudelta McBean, brothers: Charles, Ira, George, and Alvis Raymond, Rudolph McBean, and post ceded in death by his brother: Alvin McBean.

As a person who was widely known in the community and loved by his family, there were many affectionate nicknames for which Bernard was known. Those names include but are not limited to: "Big-Love", "Grandfather", "Silver Fox", "Pops", "Macko", "Clyde", "Brother Mac", "Bean-George", and "Daddy".

During his early years, while growing up around Barnaba Well in Savan, and playing with his friends, Bernard displayed many of his gifts and talents. He developed a love and passion for playing sports; and enjoyed making melodies with his voice and steel drums. Those passions followed him into adulthood. In addition to his musical talents, he excelled in playing both baseball and basketball. Some of his most proud moments were those he spent coaching and helping the "youngbloods" to become great baseball players. Bernard earned bragging rights when he sang with the Addicts which was the crowd's favorite at the "sing-out "competitions back in those days.

Continuing the journey to fulfilling his life's purpose, Bernard committed to following the teachings of Jesus. As a Christian ambassador, he fervently studied the Word, researched it in historical context, and eagerly shared his findings and knowledge with all. Among Brother Mac's spiritual gifts was a heart of gold that was filled with compassion and love for family and friends. He was an unofficial foster parent and protector to many. Of course, one must include his passion for cooking when sharing the legend of Bernard. His passion for cooking and baking led him to create unmatched recipes which he shared freely.

On Sunday, January 14, 2024, while residing Georgia with his daughter, her family and his wife, God called home his good and faithful servant. Bernard has left an indelible legacy. Now that he has gained his wings, we are blessed to have a guardian angel and an ancestor interceding on our behalf.

He is survived by his wife Sylvette McBean; children: Yolanda Paul, Dwayne McBean, Deneen McBean-Warner, (Rodney), Destiny Deberry, and Shenelle A. Martin; grandchildren: Tamisha, Elysa, Dejur, Destiny, Messiah, and Shakur McBean, Darnell and Devorn Paul, Dwayne Percell, Omari, and Gyasi Warner; siblings: Melvin McBean, Aubrey and Patrice Raymond, Marion Smith, Muriel Rhymer, and many other relatives and friends.
