In profound sorrow we the Management & Staff of Turnbull's Funeral Home & Crematory Services announce the passing of Elaine "Mother Laine"Emerson Douglas,101, of St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands who passed away Monday January 26, 2026.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Mary Douglas, sisters-Ina Duncan, Lillian Woodley and Gladys (Baby) Douglas; brothers-Moses, Cyril, Eliazar, Percy, Bethel and Wallington (Wally) Douglas; children-Johnathan Joshua, Everette and Dwight Douglas and Raphael Harris; grandchildren-Tommy Appel, Vincent Harris, Adolphus Harris and Deshea Douglas; son-in-law-Maurice Cole; daughters-in law-Alva Harris and Jeannette (Pat) Douglas.
Elaine is survived by:

Her children: Joseph Douglas, Lindley Cole, Melanie Douglas, John (Untunga) Douglas, Ulester Douglas, and Cornelius Douglas

Her grandchildren: Glenda Harris, Shaunta Douglas, Dhallia Douglas, DuJon Douglas, Dikimbe Douglas, Joseph Charles, Christopher Appel, Marie (Appel) Rogers (Tony), Dwight (Champ) Buchanan, Avonella Harris, Sandra Harris, Tena Harris, Silver Harris, Junie Harris, Marcia Harris, Judith Harris, Marsha Harris, Brian Douglas, Sheldon Douglas, Jacqueline (Kema) Douglas, Malisa Douglas, Clovis Douglas, Akeeme Douglas, Tammy Douglas, Naomi-John Douglas, Dylon (Shantelle) Douglas, Toi Douglas, and Noellia Chaparro.

Twenty-three great grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren

Daughters-in-law: Daphyne Callender Douglas, Alexis Harris, Clarita Douglas, Bana Devi Vasquez, and Clarita Douglas; Son-in-law, Tom Appel; Sister-in-law, Ryllis Douglas

Several nieces, nephews, and other relatives in the Douglas, Harris, Woodley, Duncan, Caines and Gorriden families, in The Virgin Islands, St. Kitts-Nevis, the USA and England

Elaine was born in Newton Ground, St. Kitts, and moved to Sandy Point with her family when she was a youth. She attended the local public school and became a devoted

life-long member of the Methodist Church.

She moved to the Virgin Islands in 1979 and was employed at the King Christian Hotel for many years until retirement. She found a church home here at Ebenezer Methodist, where she worshipped for over 30 years before her advanced age made it necessary for her to be moved to St. Thomas, to live with her daughter, Melanie. There she transferred her membership to the Wesley Methodist Church.
