In profound sorrow we the Management & Staff of Turnbull's Funeral Home & Crematory Services announce the passing of Erica Kerry Joy Drue, former attorney general of the Virgin Islands, 58, who passed away Saturday, August 31, 2024.
Drue spent all her formative years on St. Thomas. She attended Antilles School and graduated valedictorian of the class of 1984. Upon graduation she matriculated in Princeton University from which she graduated with a bachelor's degree in 1988. Drue also enrolled in Harvard University School of Law from which she graduated with a juris doctorate degree in 1991.
Very dear friends from her college and university days include Barack Obama, former President of the United States, Cortez Smith, Esquire, Candis Clark, Esquire, and Bernice Glasses.
Drue was preceded in death by her father, Mervyn Eric Kenroy Drue, Sr. and her nephew, Soca King Richardo Drue.
She is survived by her mother, Gertrude Niles Drue Swan, her stepfather Ive Arlington Swan, former Virgin Islands Attorney General and currently Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the Virgin Islands; her brother, Mervyn Eric Kenroy Drue, Jr.
After graduation from law school, Drue was employed at the law firm of Steel, Hector & Davis in Miami, Florida. Before commencing her private law practice, Drue was employed by the Virgin Islands Department of Justice for over ten (10) years and once held the position of chief of the Civil Division.
Drue also left to mourn innumerable relatives and friends including her nephew, Jayden Drue; grand nephews Jayden E., Kaleb, Arin, and Tristan; only grandniece Lilly Drue in Trinidad; Special Aunt Felecia Niles, special cousins Lisa Singh Testamarkand Dale Niles; only surviving Uncle, Navarro Niles;childhood friends Louisa Donastorg, Jill Spencely, and Magistrate Judge Simone VanHolten Turnbull.
Special teachers at Antilles School were Kevin Marin, Bill Canfield and Miss Ward.
Drue also left to mourn many cousins and other relatives too numerous to mention. Drue was beloved and will be missed. May she rest in peace
