In profound sorrow we the Management & Staff of Turnbull's Funeral Home & Crematory Services announce the passing of Esme A. George, 93, of St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands who passed away Tuesday, August 18, 2026. Esme Adina Percival George was the first child born to Maxwell and Floresa Percival on April 26, 1933 on the island of Tortola in the British Virgin.  Esme was married to Pedrito George, Sr. (Deceased) and together, they had two children, Denise D. George Abramsen (deceased) and Pedrito George, Jr. She was further blessed with five grandchildren – Rishaun Malone, Jeniqua Abramsen, Shaelen George, Tianna George, and Kimiko Rice, as well as six great grandchildren - Aiden Malone, Bryce George, Saint Marc George, Jace Todman, Denim Alexander, and Brixx Clarke. She also leaves to mourn three sisters, Karen Percival Woods Maynard, Carmen D. Percival Howell and Claudette Percival Olive. Two brothers Voneto Percival and Angel Smith Percival. Two brothers-in-law Alford Howell and Andrew Olive, two sisters-in-law Doreen Callwood and Antonia Percival. Adopted daughters - Gail Frazer, Lydia Griffith, Elsie Mae King, Glenda Lake, Lorrie Petersen, Sherna Parson, Natalie Pickering, Koya Ottley, Gloria Sebastien. Esme also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, friends, cousins to include the Descendants of Abraham Barry, and Descendants of Alexander & Mary Mactavious. In 1963, Esme began a career with the Virgin Islands Government, first as a cashier at the Department of Finance, before transferring to the Department of Public Works. She served as an Assistant Departmental Officer, and Personnel Relations Administrator before being appointed to the position of Director of Personnel for the St. Thomas/St. John District. In this role, Esme was relentless in her quest to improve the quality of service the employees provided to the public. She encouraged training of employees to improve effectiveness, as well as to improve the level of satisfaction for individuals who sought assistance at the Department of Public Works. Esme retired on April 28, 1993 after 30 years of service. She has been retired for the past 33 years. She lived a full, resilient life, devoted to Almighty God, to friends, and to family.
