Hilton
Daniel
Mar 17, 1952 — Jul 3, 2026
In profound sorrow we the Management & Staff of Turnbull's Funeral Home & Crematory Services announce the passing of Hilton Daniel, 74, of St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands who passed away Friday, July 03, 2026.
Hilton Walter Daniel, better known as “Abu” or “Cossil,” was born on March 17, 1952, in St. George’s Parish, on the island of Nevis, West Indies, to the late Hubert and Zillah Daniel. In St. Kitts he attended Basseterre Boys School and Basseterre Senior Highschool. In his early years he was active in several Cricket Clubs. Mr. Daniel moved to St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands in 1980 to join several of his family members. In St. Thomas he began working with Dolphin Airlines. Thereafter, he started a long career with the Virgin Islands Port Authority, and later, Virgin Beverages.
Hilton became a faithful and active member of Z.O.E Ministries, formerly named Zion Assembly Ministries in St. Thomas, where he was a valued and supportive member of the Adults Sunday School Class during Communion Services and Food and Fellowship Luncheons.
During his middle years, Hilton took a courageous step and went to Philadelphia to pursue his dream of building a future for himself. He enrolled at Lincoln Technical Institute, where he received training in electrical and plumbing trades. With hard work, dedication, and determination, Hilton completed his studies and graduated from trade school—an accomplishment that made his family proud. Hilton built his life through perseverance and exhibited the importance of commitment, discipline, and belief in oneself.
He formed lasting friendships with colleagues and friends. Those friendships reflected Hilton’s loyalty, and the value he placed on the people who were a part of his life. His commitment to friends was also evident in his relationship with family members, and especially his love for his late mother. Hilton took great care of her, and he bestowed love and support to his family members, those near and distant.
Mr. Daniel was predeceased by his father Hubert Daniel and mother Zillah Daniel; by siblings, Oretha Hanley, Charles Gilfillan, and George Gilfillan; nephews and niece, Claude Daniel, Anthony Tweed, Cicely Jordan, respectively.
