Obituary

In profound sorrow we the Management & Staff of Turnbull's Funeral Home & Crematory Services announce the passing of Iris Hobson,93, of St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands who passed away Saturday, February 28, 2026.

Iris Hobson was born on August 7, 1932, in Keys Village, St. Kitts, to Charles Hodge and Albertha Hobson, parents of Nevis and Anguilla heritage. After completing her early education in St. Kitts, Iris migrated to the U.S. Virgin Islands in the Mid-1950s at the age of 22 in search of greater economic opportunities.

Iris is preceded in death by her parents Charles and Albertha Hodge, her daughter Shirley Hodge, siblings Edith Hodge Paris, Masie Hodge Hensley, Leonard Hodge, Milton Nesbitt Hodge, Mary Hodge, Martha Hodge, Dora Hodge, Sylvia Hodge Brunswick, and Basil Hodge.

While residing on St. Thomas, she worked at the well-known Snug Cove Restaurant, Noel's Bar and Restaurant, and Pilgrim Terrace where she served as head cook. In the mid-1970s, she joined the College of the Virgin Islands (now the University of the Virgin Islands) in the facilitiesmanagement division, where she remained until her retirement in 1994. Following her retirement, she worked at Tropical Shipping.

Everyone Iris came in contact with fell in love with her. She was a master in the kitchen and loved to cook specialtydishes; she was known for her sumptuous carrot cakes which she loved to serve-up to her friends and family. She also delighted in preparing passion fruit juice and saltfishdishes, sharing these beloved favorites with generosity.

She is survived by her son Raphael Hodge, daughters Yvette Blaize, Honorable Donna Frett-Gregory and adopted daughters Sonia Clendinen and Bianca Maynard and her only surviving sibling her sister Yvonne Hodge.

She leaves to mourn her grandchildren, Kevin Blaize, Ebony Hodge, Jacqueline Hodge, Dwayane Hodge, Jason Hodge, Kaylen Gregory (Nicole Gregory), Alani Gregory, Anwar Gregory, and Agyei Gregory adopted grandchildren, Allyson Gregory, Aysha Gregory Jacobs, LaAsia Campbell and Ashuna Alexander, and Makim Christian; great-grandchildren: Adejsha Francis, Troy Francis Jr., TorianFrancis, Kobe Bell, Amina Hodge, Aycen Gregory, Ayla Iris Grace Gregory, and Pierce Gregory.

She had a wealth of nieces and nephews; Charlie Hodge, Ermine Hodge, Clyde Paris, Terrance Paris, Dewdney Paris, Charen Paris, Wilma Hodge Charles, Vernon Hodge, Veronica Hensley Williams, Floy Hensley, Jennifer Hensley, Howard Hensley, Anthony Hodge, Eustace Hodge, Raymond Hodge, Orzin Hodge, Trevor Hodge, Brenda Francis, Leroy Osborne, Ellington Osborne, Florence Williams Thomas, Sylvia Williams, Sheila Williams Jeffers, Jennifer Williams, Doret Williams, Emmanuel Williams, Nigel Williams, Nova Hodge Grant, Hilroy Hodge, Karen Hodge, Janice Hodge, DebbrahWilliams, David Hodge, Samuel Hodge, Elvette Hodge, Carl Hodge, Royston Hodge, Laverne Hodge, Bridgette Hodge, Randolph Charles Jr., Herbert Brunswick Jr., Jermaine Brunswick, Charlena Brunswick, and Anita "Nicole" Brunswick and a host of great nieces and great nephews.

Her extended family and friends share in our grief;  Sandra Hobson, Herb Brunswick,  Sylvia Barnes; special friends Grace Gregory, Margaret Corbett, Orellia Georges, Sylvia Francis, Dale Morton, Jenny Rogers, Zelda Marsham, Russell Richardson, Arthur Solomon, Janice Corbett, Jenifer Solomon, Sylvester Charles, Patrick and Roslyn Charles; her neighbors in Anna's Retreat; co-workers at the University of the Virgin Islands, Tropical Shipping, church members at the Apostolic Faith Church, the Frett and Gregory families.

The family extends deepest appreciation to her caregivers: Vanya Austrie, Tricia George and Tina Rogers; and the Continuum Care family for their loving care. To all her family and friends who have enquired over the past years about our mother we sincerely appreciate your concerns and care you have shown in support of our family thank you for your acts of love, kind words and prayers.

She was a devout Christian that loved the Lord.
