Relatives and friends are advised of the death of renowned musician and boat captain James "JamesZ" Obna Smith.
He was born in St. Thomas, Virgin Islands, on Sept. 24, 1968. He passed Dec. 11, 2023.
James was preceded in death by his parents, Zephaniah Obna Smith and Lucille Mercer Smith, and his sister, Janet Smith.
He is survived by his wife, Myka Callender-Smith; children and daughters, Jharese and Jamyka Smith; sons, Jhared and Jhamane Smith; brothers, Vincent Callwood and Joseph Smith; Juliette Smith and Januet Smith-George; sisters-in-law, Baerbel Smith and Mary Callwood; brother-in-law, Clyde George; aunts, Doris Callwood, Niomi Donovan and Shinika Mercer; uncle, Akile Mercer; nieces, Lenette Callwood, Shalema Smith, Julisa Gyra Thomas, Kaela, Karlisa and Khaliya George, Trisha Smith; nephews, Fran Callwood, Andrew McEachern, Anthony Smith, Dwayne Smith; special cousins, Laraine Niles, Jeffrey Smith, Rosalie Randolph, Jenneley Smith, Desserie Harrigan, Lauralie Webbe, Dave Smith, Sekou Richardson, Jeffrey Mercer, the Smith, Dawson, Mercer, Donovan families; special friends, Cordell Rhymer, Calvin Thomas, Janet Myers, the Peterkins, Stouts, and many relatives and friends too numerous to mention.
He was peceded in death by special cousin, Lynelle Niles.
The memorial service celebrating his life will be held Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2024, at 10 a.m. in Blyden Memorial Chapel.
Arrangements will be under the care of Turnbull's Funeral Home and Crematory Services.
