Russell A.
Wheatley
May 24, 1957 — Mar 25, 2026
In profound sorrow we the Management & Staff of Turnbull's Funeral Home & Crematory Services announce the passing of Russell A. Wheatley, 68, of St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands who passed away Wednesday, March 25, 2026.
As the eldest of four boys, Russell was the natural leader of the pack. To his three younger brothers, he was more than just a sibling; he was also a guardian, stepping in to protect his brothers when they needed any assistance. Growing up, he was known as being "bull-strong", a term well known in the Virgin Islands.
Russell was the extrovert of the family, who never met a stranger he couldn't talk to, and he showed his younger brothers by example how it was done.
Russell was very proud of his career, particularly his time managing a large warehouse for Fujifilm. He took pride in the responsibility of leading his team, bringing his trademark "can-do" attitude to every challenge.
A lifelong lover of sports and physical activity, Russell was at his happiest when he was moving. He was always the first to try something new and encouraging his brothers to get outside and be active.
While his later years brought challenges that would have surprised those who knew only his outward strength, Russell met them with the same quiet resilience that defined his youth.
Russell is survived by his three younger brothers, two nieces, a great nephew, two uncles on his mom's side, one uncle from his father's side, two aunts, and many cousins too numerous to easily name, who will carry his memory in their hearts.
