With profound sadness and hearts filled with love, gratitude and cherished memories, the family of Samuel “Edgar” Jones, affectionately known as “Harro,” of St. Joseph, Dominica, who resided in St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, announces his passing at One Brooklyn Health–Brookdale University Hospital Medical Center, N.Y., on Aug. 18, 2026.

He was a devoted husband and father with a big heart, and his love for his family was evident in everything he did. Providing for those he loved was always at the center of his life. That commitment to his family could be seen in the way Edgar worked. For many years, he built a successful career as a painting contractor, leaving his mark on properties throughout the Virgin Islands, including Sugar Bay Resort, Gallows Point Resort, Frenchman’s Reef, the Windward Passage Hotel, and numerous luxury homes on St. John. But anyone who knew Edgar knew that one hustle was never enough. After a day of painting, and even on Sundays, you could often find him in his van selling clothing throughout the island.

Edgar leaves to mourn his devoted wife of 39 years, Elvia Jones; his children, Kelvin Jones, Samuel Jones Jr., Doyle Jones, Natasha Gayle Jones-Vincent, Diana Jones, and Kimmoleah Jones; his sisters, Rosemund Jones, Sonia Jones, Doreen Jones, Loreen Jones, Karen Jones-Cornelius, and Yoland Jones; and his brother, Robert Jones; his brothers-in-law, Carlton Abott, Clement Abott, Elvin Abott, Kurt and Justin Paul; his sisters-in-law, Kathleen Gumbs and Elizabeth Paul; his grandchildren, Ayani Vincent, Malachai Jones, Andrew Jones, Samuel Jones III, Shekinah “Glory” Jones, Alyssa Jones, and Alair Jones; his great-grandchildren, Kelvin Jones and Kayden Jones; his son-in-law, Jamar Vincent; daughter-in-law, Makeba Gunthropes-Jones; and special daughter, Yolanda Thorpe; his nieces, Edwardline Alfred, Sheryl Pendenque, Emmanuela Christopher, Joyceline Durand, Linda LeBlanc, Christaline Jno Baptiste, Earline Jno Baptiste, Merlyn Jno Baptiste, Diana Jones, Vilma Jones, Nadege Barber, Kareema Cornelius, Wendy Maxim, Valda Hector, and Valley Hector.
