She was  preceded in death by her parents: Andrew Usher Penn and Rosalind Agathe Lettsome Penn; her husband of 51 years of marriage, Benburin “Benny” Stephens; son Louis, and daughter Miriam, neither of whom survived childhood; sisters: Glenella Celaire, Sylvia Thomas, and Natalia Penn; and brothers: Raymond, Gilbert “Bertie,” Godfrey “Cap,” Garvin, and Seford Sr. Left to cherish Valaria’s memory are her siblings and their spouses: Edris Smith, Wesley & Ora Penn, and Stedman & Myrthlyn Penn; her children and their spouses: Ashley, Bernard, Lorraine “Sista,” Myron “Mio” Stevens and Shirley Stevens, Carolyn Stephens-Washington and Joey Washington, Coleen, and Beverly Stephens-Samuel and Gurvin Samuel; A special niece: Laurecia Chalwell; A special nephew: Michael “Tarty” Chinnery; Special Daughter-in-law: Deverell Alfred; Grandchildren: Dr. Robert C.
